General description

Renting or leasing technical building components such as elevators transfers the responsibility regarding quality and longevity of the product back to the producer. It is then in the producer's interest to maintain and keep the elevator going as long as possible. In this case, the client pays per amount of vertical movement.

Examples

Pavilion CIRCL

Amsterdam, Netherlands

A colleague in the field of circular architecture, Thomas Rau, preaches the idea of renting certain building parts from the manufacturer, instead of buying them. For example, the elevator in the CIRCL Pavilion is owned by Mitsubishi and ABN AMRO pays them per vertical ride, according to the manufacturer this elevator has a longer lifespan than average lifts.
